Guided Reading Groups and One Minute Reader App
Please be sure your child has headphones for school so they can participate in the One Minute Reader App. This app helps your child to increase their reading fluency. They will have an opportunity daily to utilize this app to read a passage, read along with a passage that is read aloud to them, and reread it again to improve their fluency. They take daily data on their fluency scores and keep these in their purple binders.
Students are reading in small reading groups. When they are not meeting in groups, they are practicing their fluency, reading independently or writing on Thinkmarks about their reading.
We are finishing Danny, the Champion of the World. This will be followed by Dear Mr. Henshaw.
Students are continuing to craft a memoir. They have begun this work by reading three memoirs and have already selected a topic. Next, they will work on mapping their ideas- staying focused on a snapshot- one moment in time. They will practice revision skills and work with a writing partner to edit their memoirs. When they have a final product, they will be able to greenscreen or use the Puppet Pals app to showcase their work.
